The Midwest Book Review

“Dreams Around the World” is a beautifully photographed odyssey around the world exploring the treasured dreams of thirteen children from locations as diverse as Africa, Finland, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, and Poland. The author/photographer traveled from Japan to fifty five countries on six continents, interviewing over 1400 children to obtain the thirteen children chosen for “Dreams Around the World.” Written to appeal to children ages 4-8, “Dreams Around the World” shows a great variety of cultural outlooks, resulting in specific cherished goals and dreams of these children. Many children will recognize or perhaps discover dreams of their own here, to be a ballerina, a teacher, a gelato shop owner, a police officer, or a clown! Although continents and addresses may vary, something about all children's dreams is similar. For a wonderful opportunity to begin to imagine global ties and the joyous miracle of cultural diversity, “Dreams Around the World” is a perfect introduction to a common heritage of global awareness.

Comics Bulletin

The titular story in this book is the most vivid both in terms of its plot and its characters. “Jack the Bastard” is an often grim, often intense meditation on violence and revenge and history, full of surprisingly complex and odd characters who all seem to have their own agendas. Nathan is very effective at creating fully fledged characters at just a few strokes and creating settings that are remarkably intense. I could practically taste the dust from the Texas plains as I read the early sections of this story, and see these characters clearly in mind's eye as the story progressed on.

Nerdcenaries

“All of these themes and ideas, the referentialness, the death of self, the surreal loneliness and wander and the deeper darkness all meet up again in Jack The Bastard, a 100 plus epic of revenge and darkness that left me wounded at the end. Jack stands as this modern epic in a world that we forget about in the deserts of the south and the wars that are waged there.

All together the collection works as a set of stories without a connected theme between them all and I found the book to be more or less flawless. ”

TENKEN is still in the minds of readers!

We just received a new fantastic review from a great site called, No Flying No tights. Don't you just love that moniker!

“The artwork here is lovely, a mix of realism and impressionism, full of bold ink washes and ephemeral linework that often give the images a sense of fragility and an appropriate dreamlike quality.”
